Hot! Alex Smith Visits Dolphins As Niners Romance Peyton Manning - Sporting News - Nfl

Alex Smith arrived in south Florida on Sunday to spend the day with Miami Dolphins officials.

That visit follows one by another candidate for Dolphins starting quarterback. Matt Flynn , who backed up Aaron Rodgers for four years with the Green Bay Packers, spent Saturday with the team , Sporting News correspondent Ben Volin reported for the Palm Beach Post.

Flynn played for new Dolphins coach Joe Philbin with the Packers. He is on a tour of suitors, including a Friday visit with the Seattle Seahawks.

With the Dolphins out of the bidding for Peyton Manning, Smith and Flynn are now seen as the likely candidates for the team's 2012 starting quarterback.

Smith, 28, is an unrestricted free agent quarterback who led the San Francisco 49ers to within one game of the Super Bowl last season. San Francisco's pursuit of Manning clouds Smith's future with the 49ers, even though both sides are working on a longer deal for his return.

This is the NFL. I guess nothing surprises me anymore, Smith told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

"I never thought a year ago Manning would be a free agent either. I'm never surprised by anything."

A report in SFGate.com, which cited an unidentified league source, said Smith is also considering a change in agents. Tom Condon, of Creative Artists Agency, represents both Smith and Manning.

Condon has been Smith's agent since the former Utah quarterback was selected as the top overall draft pick in 2005.

According to multiple reports, the 49ers recently made a three-year, $24 million offer to Smith.
