The family of Tyler Clementi announced Thursday they over the death of their son.
Clementi committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge shortly after learning Ravi had used a webcam to spy on him while he had a male guest in the room Clementi and Ravi shared as freshman at Rutgers.
The Clementi family decision is fair and appropriate, and sets an example that should be followed by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office and Ravi's defense team.
Ravi was convicted on all 15 counts of invasion of privacy, bias intimidation and witness tampering last spring. He was sentenced to 30 days in county jail , 300 hours of community service and fined $10,000, money which went to a bias victims relief fund.
Defense attorney Steve Altman is appealing the conviction. Prosecutors are appealing what they believed was a lenient sentence.
Ravi has served his time and working down his community service and showing as ordered for probation.
It's time for everyone to put this sad and unfortunate case to rest. The Clementis have led the way. The rest should follow.
